Show ' Schools, City Organizations Will Honor First President Appropriate Programs Arranged for Observance Ob-servance of Washington's Birthday Anniversary Half-Holiday Declared. V Gunnison schools, civic clubs, churches and citizens will pay homage hom-age to George Washington, the nation's na-tion's first president, with appropriate exercises at the Casino theatre next Monday afternoon at 2:30, when an appropriate program, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the hero and statesman, will be given. The celebration celebra-tion is in keeping with a national movement, which is carried out in the bicentennial observance of Washington's Washing-ton's birth. Classes from the high school and the Washington grade school will be the principals in the program that has been arranged, and the tentative outline follows: Singing, "America, the Beautiful," by audience; invocation, Bishop Leslie Kidman; choruses, junior girls chorus if the high school; Washington minu-1 at dance by Misses Lola Olsen, Phyllis Phyl-lis Hermansen, Leona Kidman, Mon-lez Mon-lez Fjeldsted, Fay Lund, Margie Beck, Gertrude Edwards, Sylvia Tuft. Miss Camille Rosenvall will act as Man'st for this historical dance. One of the attractive features of the program will be a one-act play, entitled "A View From the Window," a story of the betrayal of George Washington by his friend, Colonel Morris. General Washington, however, turns the tables and wins a great victory. vic-tory. The play will be directed by M;ss Margaret Finnell, and the cast will include Moyle Rasmussen, Leon Michaelson, Stanley Voorhees, LeRoy Tensen, Bernard Anderson, Keith Sor-.nson, Sor-.nson, Chris Madsen, Eldon Mclff, Farlund Nielson, and Rulon Petty. The Washington grade school will furnish five numbers at the principal program. The first grade will give a dance, "How Do You Do, My Partner." Part-ner." This will be followed by a "February" "Feb-ruary" song, given by the members of the second grade. The third grade will give a dramatization, "Little Historian," His-torian," and a drill and song, "Little "Lit-tle Soldier," will be the part to be given by the fourth grade. The concluding con-cluding number will be Washington birthday exercises, by the fifth grade. The eight grades of the Washington school will give appropriate programs Monday morning, starting at 9 o'clock. The first number will be with all students stu-dents assembled in front of the echool building. At this time the group will sing the "Star Spangled Banner," and salute "Old Glory" as it proudly waves in the breezes. The students will then recite the pledge of allegiance al-legiance to the flag. Reassembling in the various rooms, the pupils will jive separate programs. The 1st grade program pro-gram will be as follows: Song, "America"; "Am-erica"; story, "George Washington md the Cherry Tree"; soldier song ind drill; story, "George Washington and the Colt"; poem, "Like Washington"; Washing-ton"; poem, "The First Flag"; dance, ' "The Minuet"; poem, "If All the Trees Were Cherry Trees"; song, "Washington's "Wash-ington's Birthday." Second grade program Song, "America"; "Am-erica"; poem, "Like Washington"; story, "Our Old Flag"; song, "February"; "Febru-ary"; poem, "Our Flag"; group dramatization, dram-atization, "Our First Flag"; song and dances. ' Third grade program Salute to the flag and song, "America"; invocation; .. poem; song; drama, "Little Histor-:. . ian"; poem; drama, "Washington' .'.:' Birthday"; songs, story and poems,;: In the fifth grade a Washington . .-. .' song will be sung by the class, and this will be followed by a retold story; dramatization of Mrs. Washington's Wash-ington's birthday; song, "Little Soldier," Sol-dier," by class; reading, "George Washington;" dramatization of song:, "Snow White"; reading. In the sixth grade a talk will be given on history of George Washington; Washing-ton; cornet solo, poem, and concluding with a duet. The program for the 7th grad will comprise a reading, harmonica sla and a group song. The 8th grade will include in its program a reading, solo, harmm'ca solo, violin duet, ukulele duet, and nn accordion solo. It is planned to place decorations appropriate to the occasion about the city and the Legion members will unfurl the eighty flags on the light standards. Business houses will bo closed and the afternoon will be spent in paying a tribute to the "Father of Our Country," George Washington. |
