Show Public Library Is Urged For City Initiative steps were taken at the regular meeting 'of the city council last Saturday night for the establishment establish-ment and maintenance of a free public pub-lic library for Gunnison. Just aa soon as necessary arrangements can be made, and if within the legal bounds, the city authorities will authorize au-thorize an election for the purpose of voting a special tax for the establishing estab-lishing and maintaining a public library. li-brary. Messrs. Feischknecht and Swal-berg, Swal-berg, as a committee, were before the council with the library propo sition, and it was set out that very fow cities, if any, the size of Gunnison, Gunni-son, was without a library. The keen necessity of the needs for the schools as well as the citizens, to have a .library was strongly impressed. The matter was referred to the proper committee which will take te matter mat-ter up with the city attorney, and it is more than likely that at the coming fall election provision wih be made for voting the special ta;: for the library. E. Erickson and Adolph Peterson, operating the hotel and. cafe, made a protest to the city fathers for allowing allow-ing citizens in the city to conduct eating places and lodging houses-without houses-without paying licenses. The Protestants Prot-estants cited that the city ordinance, provided the payment, of licenses where a certain number were caret! for. The licenses committee was in structed to make an investigation am. impose the required licenses on tlios-. who were conducting boarding aiu. lodging houses. Complaint was made as to the con dition of tho street on the south side of tho city park. Anthon Yepson proffered prof-fered to make tho repairs on th. 50-50 basis and the matter was r ferrcd to the committee on street.-. There are other conditions in th. streets that will bo taken up and repaired re-paired by the committee. |
