Show First Drainage District Is Formally Organized Al a mooting of the county com-, missioners held at Manti last Saturday Satur-day the pcttition of the farmers of Gunnison Valley, asking permission for the formation of Drainage District Dis-trict No. 1, was granted. There was not a protest of any sort before the board of commissioners and' the application ap-plication went through without a hitch. Not only was the petition granted, but the board appointed officers of-ficers for the district, as follows: President, W. V. England; secretary, Leo Bardaley; treasurer, J. W. Niel-son. Niel-son. The officers, all well known in the county and among the progressives, progres-sives, will act as the board of supervisors super-visors for the new "organizat ion. The organization- of the Drainage district, the first and only one in the county, means much for the section under which it will operate as well as the entire southern section of Sanpete San-pete county. It will not only be the I means of reclaiming nearly 4,000 acres of water-logged lands along the river, but it will more than double the value of the entire acreage acre-age under the system. The raove-j raove-j merit was started some time ago and j many regarded it as almost impossible impossi-ble to carry out tho plans. With the staunch men back of it, however, ft has been brought to a realization and it will now only be a matter of a few months until the system is working in the entire district. W. V. England, president of the new district, stated to a News reporter report-er the first or the week, tthat engineers engi-neers from Salt Lake City would be here the first of the coming week to start surveys. At least two, and maybe three ditching machines will be brought to the valley and start j work shortly and if nothing unfor-j unfor-j seen happens to mar the present plans, tile laying will be in full blast within the next ninety days. |
