Show ROAST FOR PINCHOT. Montana Senator Makes Bitter Speech on Forest Service Expenditures. Washington. Gifford Pinchot and his forestry service received a hard drubbing at the hands of the senate during the debate on the agiicultural appropriation bill on Thursday, and there is likelihood of a material reduction reduc-tion of the appropriation for the forestry for-estry service. Senator Carter offered an amendment which he backed up by a bitter speech against the administration's administra-tion's forest reserve policy whereby Pinchot is to receive but $2 000.000 during the next fiscal year, instead of $4,200,000. Senator Carter read various extracts from forest service documents setting forth the list of journeys taken by forestry for-estry employes during the year for every purpose, from helping supervisors super-visors sell timher in Arizona to lecturing lec-turing before the Cooperage institution institu-tion in St. Louis. Senator Hale also delivered a few caustic remarks. |
