Show TITLED WOMEN IN PRISON. Suffragettes Decline to Pay Fines, Preferring Pre-ferring to Serve Sentence. London. Refusing to give security for their good behavior, the woman suffragists who were arrested while attempting to reach Premier Asquith to present him a petition in the interests inter-ests of the cause, were oa Thursday sentenced to imprisonment. Most of the terms were for one month. An exception was made in the case of Mrs. Pethick Lawrence, who, having a previous conviction against her, 'was sentenced to two months' imprisonment. imprison-ment. Miss Lawless was among those given one month. Lady Constance Lytton, sister of Lory Lytton, and daughter of the former viceroy of India, In-dia, warned ler friends that if they . secured her release by providing security se-curity she would repeat her offense. Sentences were imposed upon ahout thirty women, many of them having a high social standing. |
