Show f What Would Come With Peace? SHOULD a truce bo agreed to between the war- ring powers beyond the sea, then the present B administration and the party behind it in the M United States would have something to be most H anxious about. M The shipping of war material would suddenly H cease; the attention of the people at home would B be turned to our own affairs, and the question of M what is being done and in what direction is it m leading toward, would bo a pertinent one. Next B year is to be a presidential election year, and B sharp men are already making tiie case for and B against the party in power. What has been the B effect of the present free trade law upon the B country? What about a merchant marine? B Have there been sins of omission and com- B mission by those In power? What legislation can B be looked for when congress meets? B On this big range called the United States are B any fences needed to keep out the hungry stock M of outsiders? What is the state of those indus- B tries that give surplus laboring men employment? m, .There are a great many of these questions to M be threshed out and should peace suddenly come M beyond the sea, these questions would come to the H front in a day. They would be all the more ur- 1 gent with the natural depression that would come B were the war to close and they should make those Hi in power in our country especially anxious. |
