Show OIL. Most encouraging reports come in from the Utah and Wyoming oil lands. Oil-seekers should be encouraged. The Government has just run a steamer from San Francisco to Tahiti and back, the fuel being oil. It is, with another process of applying the flame of oil to the boilers, running a war ship on the Atlantic. The Southern Pacific Pa-cific and A. T. & S. F. railroads are using oil for fuel for their locomotives all over southern California Cali-fornia and far out into the desert to -the east. It is about settled that a ton of oil costing $4 will supply as much heat force to machinery as a ton of coal costing ?9. Then with the oil the smoke and cinders are done away with. "When coal miners contemplate a strike they should think of these facts. It is believed by some sanguine ones that within the coming few months a vastly in-creased in-creased heat energy can be obtained from the oil and that for the coal used in manufactures and in private houses in all our western cities, oil win be substituted. So, our oil seekers should be pn-couraged, pn-couraged, for prospectively there will be no limit to the demand for oil for fuel. It surely will bo a boon when our cities are able to cease burn.ng coal, and the people can be given to breathe pure air once more. |
