Show GSCAL(W7U HUMS By Marlene Haws 826-4859 A busy week again. For me anyway. How about you? Klyn and I went to Panguitch last Thursday for a doctor appointment appoint-ment and on to St. George to spend a couple of days with the families of our children, Brent and Patrice Cottam and Jon and Jillyn Sorensen. Jon and Jillyn had a condominium on a time share and we had a ball! Then on Saturday we attended the wedding at the temple for Ryan and Tari Cottam. At noon we attended a luncheon for them in Cedar City and in the evening we attended their reception in Tropic. And what a wonderful tribute that was to them. Many friends and relatives from all over were in attendance. It was a great day. The families of Ashley Beebe and Ryan Chidester were also with them at the temple that same day for their wedding. They will be having a reception in Escalante on Oct. 11, and an open house in Cedar City Oct. 12. Gary and Sandy Liston and girls came from St. Johns, Ariz, for the blessing of their grandson grand-son and nephew, Westyn, son of Dallas and Emily Clark in Cannonville. Attending from Escalante were: grandparents, Lane and Geraldine Liston, Marlene Haws, Patrice Cottam, Jillyn and Shaylynn Sorensen. It looked like the Clarks had most of their family there too. Visiting at the home of Melvin and Florence Alvey were David and Nancy Coffman and son, Justin, of Springville. David is a son of Ilene Alvey Coffman who used to live where Shannon Steed now lives. The Coffman 's had started out for a ride and just kept coming until they got to Escalante. They had been wanting to hike to Calf Creek falls again for a long time! Stopping by the Alvey home were the daughter of Cleone Davis Norton, who used to live here, and her husband. Also visiting with the Alvey's were the family of the former Vera Woolsey. Her husband DelMar Halblaub and daughter and son-in-law Penny and Scott Anderson. Penny and Scott bought the trailer home that belonged to Harold (Sox) Spencer. They look forward to spending time here. They were here for four days and also visited visit-ed Ed and Vada Martin. Jay and Linda Stokes and daughter, Riverton came to visit Linda's mom, Betty Alvey, and to attend the reception for Ryan and Tari Cottam. Arnold and Deon Alvey went to Las Vegas, Nevada to help daughter, Raylene Whitefield, celebrate her birthday. They stayed an extra day and the Whitefields took them to Loffland and Bullhead City. They said they had a good time and that they are quite the places. Kent and Kay Ellett are moving mov-ing to Arizona. We always hate to lose a young family. They have been an asset to our community com-munity and we will miss them. Michael Porter has been home from school visiting his parents, Don and Gwen Porter. He will be getting married later on this month. Alan Torgersen, Terry Clark and Geraldine Liston spent a few days in Las Vegas attending telephone meetings. Geraldine visited her brother Ron Mecham and family while she was there. Congratulations to Brant Barton, Tropic, who will be the new manager at South Central Telephone Association. Danny Spencer, current manager, will retire at the end of the year. That should give him more fishing fish-ing time! Danny has done a great job during his tenure. He's made and seen a lot of good changes. Louise Liston was in Cedar City for a day or two helping her daughter Michelle Johnson pack up to move into an apartment. apart-ment. Michelle and Aaron sold their house and will be building a new one soon. I saw Shanna Porter in the hospital in Cedar City. She doesn't work there but she says Clint does. I didn't see him but I did see Leslie Davis, former wife of Carl Davis. (Sorry I don't know her married name now). They lived at the Park at Wide Hollow Reservoir. Leslie works in X-Ray at the Valley View Medical Center. Carolyn Jones left a message on my answering machine telling me about a new Soccer Program that is beginning in Escalante. I wasn't able to reach her to get details, but if you are interested you might give her a call at 826-4161. For your information: Dan Coleman and Dan Parish have recently resigned from the Escalante Planning 'and Zoning Commission. Dan Parish will be moving away at the end of the year. We will miss him and his family. Lori Coleman has been appointed as a new commissioner. com-missioner. Kevin Schulkoski chairs the group, Marlene Haws has been appointed chair protein, pro-tein, Rick Oyler and Shirley Porter are commissioners and Don Mosier is the liaison from the city council. |
