Show Sheriffs' Possemen Recover Downed Flier's Body Moving in Tuesday morning with military speed and precision, a party of twenty rescuers recovered the body of Harold Bowman, 34, fom the scene of his fatal plane wreck high in the mountains about 15 miles northeast of Panguitch. Sheriff George Middleton of Garfield County, Sheriff Ca:l Bccbe of Piute County, State Highway troopers Otho Bulkley and Dean, Pearson led the party spearheaded by the Garfield County Jeep Patrol. Aided by the guiding of Ru-lcn Bcrrett, George Proctor and Jess Coons, and the radio network set up by the Crofts rvarson Industries, the men vcre at the scene four hours under the estimated time set by government men who flew over the scene. The crash victim was Harold Bowman, a partner in the Jacob's Lake tourist enter-prise. He was enroute on a business trip to Salt Lake carrying considerable cash in bank deposits and company payroll. The money was recovered intact though charred. The single-engine crashed Monday about 6:45 A.M. When the plane was reported overdue, Bowman's brother-in-law Jack Rich and a business partner John Coward joined the air search and were the ones to pin point the scene of the crash. They met the Jeep patrol at Bear Valley Junction Monday night. The party went into the Davenport deer camp overnight and moved into hiking position before daylight. Planes flown by Ralph Ross, Mrs. Walter Tasker and State aeronautics commissioner Harlan Bement circled the wreck until the foot-slogging posse men reached it to recover the body. It was about the 10.000 foot level. |
