Show Jo and Thayne Smith Smiths Celebrate 50th Anniversary Georgia Joan (Jo) and Thayne Clark Smith will be celebrating their 50lh wedding anniversary on March 29 at the Kanab South LDS chapel at 2 p.m. The party will be hosted by the Smiths' children and grandchildren. Friends and family are cordially invited to amend. The couple met in Kanab in 1938. Thayne had come from Henrieville to work and attend high school and Jo was a Kanab native. They were married April 7, 1947 in Elko, Nev. Thayne served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 in the Pacific. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1950. He taught school for several years and then went to work for Sears Roebuck in Santa Monica, Calif. In 1975, he left Sears. He and Jo, with youngest son Eric, moved back to Kanab. He opened the Green Thumb Nursery and continued con-tinued with that until retiring in 1990. Thayne has been very involved in-volved serving his community and his church. He serves on the Kane County Planning Commission, Commis-sion, American Legion, Lions Club, Hospital Auxiliary and Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Jo was primarily a homemakcr until she started working for Zions Bank in Kanab. She retired from the bank in 1992 after 17 years. She is active today in the Daughters Daugh-ters of the Utah Pioneers, Civic Club, and Heritage Council. Jo and Thayne are both volunteers for the reading program at the elementary school with 1st grade students The Smiths spend their leisure time traveling in and out of the United Stales. They began traveling overseas when youngest son Eric was in the LDS mission field in Italy. There will be a fun exhibit at the party outlining their travel adventures. The Smiths have four children, Michcle Ann, Kurds Frederic (deceased), Dcnise Jo (Tye) and Eric Devoroux. They have seven grandsons and one granddaughter. The family will continue the celebration of 50 years by enjoying enjoy-ing a cruise together. Paid Advertisement Elder Chance Stewart Stewart Returns From Mission TROPIC Elder Chance Stewart will be returning from his LDS Texas, Fort Worth Mission. He will present his mission report at 11:45 on March 23 at the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel. Elder Stewart is a son of Max L. and Phyllis Stewart and a grandson of Leona Stewart of Tropic, and Floyd and Colleen Tucker of St. George. |
