Show AREA OBITUARIES Woodruff 'Woody" Ballard Pollock TROPICWASHINGTON Woodruff "Woody" Ballard Pollock, Pol-lock, age 75, died on May 28, 1997 at the Dixie Regional Medical Medi-cal Center. He was born on April 3, 1922 in Tropic to Loram A. and Maggie Johnson Pollock. He married Arda Fox on June 4, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nev. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Woody was reared and educated edu-cated in Tropic. He worked in the CC Camp at Bryce Canyon. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp just before WWII and served for four years. Following marriage, Woody and Arda lived in several locations before settling in Las Vegas, where they lived for 28 years. They camejo Washington in 1974 where they lived sine that time. Woody worked as a truck driver for almost 30 years. He was a self-taught "jack-of-all-trades". He could fix anything, and if he didn't know how, he taught himself. He had a locksmith lock-smith business called Woody's Lock & Key in Washington and later Pollock Enterprises. For the last 10 years, he and Arda worked as campground area managers for various campgrounds in Cedar Mountain, Red Canyon, Pan-guitch Pan-guitch Lake, Idylwild, California, and Lake Isabel in Colorado. Woody was an active member of the LDS Church and served in three bishoprics and served as a scout master for 35 years. He received his wood badge and silver sil-ver beaver and helped organize the first Pow Wow at Dixie College. Col-lege. He also helped organize the Washington 10th Winter Branch as first counselor. Woody enjoyed en-joyed teaching Sunday School and his Priesthood lessons. He loved to help other people, and loved the outdoors. He often retreated re-treated to his mountain cabin near Hatch. Survivors include his wife Arda of Washington; three children: chil-dren: Dale B. (Shauna) Pollock of Washington; Sharon Lorraine (Robert) Thomas of Redlands, Calif.; Lynn Pollock of Las Vegas; Ve-gas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four brothers: Denzel Pollock of Beaver Dam, Ariz.; David Wilbur (Franca) Pollock Pol-lock of Las Vegas; DeLon J. (Laree "Cindy") Pollock of Manila; Ma-nila; and Sherrell (Janene) Pollock Pol-lock of Duchesne; three sisters: Maggie (Boyd) Henderson of Washington; Clora (Lee) Hardy of Las Vegas; Maryetta (Gene) Chynoweth of Tropic; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Karen and Varcil Pollock. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31 in Washington. Interment was in the Washington Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George. |
