Show Garfield Deputy To Serve State Panel Garfield County Jailer and Dispatcher Cathy Holt haa been named to the Utah State Victim Vic-tim Witness Task Force. Holt was one of six new members named to the task force at the first meeting, held in Panguitch Sept. 21. The others are Washington County Sheriff Ken Campbell; Duchesne County Sheriff Clair Poulson ; Sevier County Deputy Dan Carter; Gayle Smith, Davis County Sheriffs Office; Of-fice; and Lynn Yates, Box Elder County Sheriffs Office. The task force was established under the direction of President Reagan to assist in counseling and providing resources for victims and witnesses of crimes. This first meeting was held to establish membership. Eash member present at the meeting was nominated by the Utah Sheriff's Assoc. The Utah Sheriff's Assoc. is acting for 'the National Sheriff's Assoc. in beginning the victim witness program in each county in the state. The Utah Sheriff's Assoc. was chosen to spearhead this program because of their accessibility to the court system and county-wide jurisdiction. Each task force member is assigned a region to help develop victim witness programs. The members are to seek out resources in their regions to help establish a master resource list in the state. The task force ultimate objective is to train those people involved in the criminal justice system to better understand and assist the needs of victims and witnesses. |
