Show The Garfield County Insider Page 4 FYI .PANGUITCH... February 10, 2011 EFIRMAIIIIEWMAMIUD IS by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com This cold wind sure played havoc with our old house. Our pipes froze in the upstairs bath room, and after a couple of days of trying to thaw them, they broke. Fortunately I was watching a late basketball game and heard the water running through the down stairs light fixture and shut the water off before it could do too much damage. When the wind blows hard from the north it really is murder on your water lines. Wayne Ross a long time school bus driver has called it a day. Wayne has driven the Lady Cats ball teams for the last 27 years. He has headed many team championship parades, with both the basketball and volleyball teams, I believe 7 in basketball and 3 in volleyball and it maybe even more. Wayne always kept score of the home and away games, which is not as easy as it seems, he is doing the home games again this year. At the Piute girls' game, I chatted with their principal Scott Bagley about their school rebuilding. He said that the work should be completed by summer and the old school will be torn down by the start of the school year. All of the class rooms will be in one building, so the students won't be out in the cold weather. Mr. Bagley said that their student body is back up to 180 students, (7 to 12) grades. They have an average of 30 students per grade. For our entertainment, there were 5 different drill teams, ranging in age from 2 years old up to the varsity girls. I believe that Piute is the only Region 20 school with a drill team, good luck to them at State. I like playing against Piute, they are really good sports, but they also have a great band. One thing I learned is it is made up of mostly 6, 7 and 8th graders and their leader and their music is so much better than the noise (its not music) that all the other schools play. Panguitch has 200 students (7 to 12) grades and on down to Escalante with 80 students. The Home Coming Queen this year is Jaylen Dodds, 1st Attendant is Amanda Schear and Maryn Mooney is 2nd Attendant. Sydnee Palmer is Miss Congeniality and they were presented at the Home Coming game against Escalante. The Cheerleaders wore retro cheerleader outfits from the past. Lauren Frandsen wore a completely different outfit and David Frandsen ask me if it was a authentic PHS cheer outfit, so I checked with Lauren and it was her Mother's Jan 1969 cheerleader outfit. David also asked me when the gym was built and I really learned something. I asked (Mr. Panguitch,) Frank Houston about it, the Gym was built first, in 1964 and the swimming pool came 14 years later in 78 or 79. The High School wasn't built till 1986. Frank said there hasn't been anything done to the gym to make it better other than the lighting. The locker rooms are in terrible shape according to those who know. . However the Grand Old Lady of High School gyms is still the best in the State because of its size and seating capacity. With all the turmoil in Egypt, Pat and I were talking about all the vacations that we have been on and how good our timing has been. We went to Yellowstone in June and complained about all the snow there was. Two month later the park caught fire and I don't think will live long enough to ever see the Park ever recover to that kind of beauty. That same summer we went over to Mt. Rushmore and it caught fire after we left, but not near as much damage. In 2001 in the early summer the family rented a van and toured much of the country, going clear up to Maine and stopping to see all the sights in between. We ended up in New York and Shawn, Teah and I went up in the World Trade Center.
