Show EDYTHE MARETT ATTENDS MIA CAMPOUT Mrs. Edythe Marett, Duchesne Duch-esne Stake Y.W. M.I. A. president, pre-sident, attended a campout for certification of stake M.I. A. leaders the past week in Big Cottonwood Canyon and Kay Ferrell, stake sports-camp director. This was conducted by the general board of the M. LA. Purpose of the camp-out was for the leaders to demonstrate demon-strate their knowledge of first-aid, first-aid, camping and hiking rules and skills, outdoor cooking, handcraft and nature collections, collect-ions, so that these leaders can, in turn, certify the girls and leaders of the ward M. I. A. fs who desire to participate in the program. Two of the activities, which were new and interesting to these leaders were boiling an egg in a paper cut set in the campfire, and building a fire without matches. "The M.I. A. camp certification certifi-cation program is a fairly new one and it is optional with the girls. However, it has met with great enthusiasm, and girls who fulfill the requirements require-ments for certification attain survival skills, which will be invaluable to them, plus gaining a greater appreciation for the beautiful world of nature, " Mrs. Marett said. The Duchesne Stake Y.W. M.I. A. will conduct a three -day camp-out during the latter part of July, at which time the M.I. A. girls will demonstrate their camping skills and those who have earned it will receive re-ceive certification, Mrs. Marett reports. |
