Peterson has recently recent-ly been named Manager of the First Security Bank of Utah in Duchesne, Utah. Mr. Peterson was formerly Installment Loan Collector at the Vernal office of the bank. A native of Heber, Mr. Peterson started his banking career in 1956 as a teller for Uintah State Bank, First Security's Secur-ity's predecessor in Vernal. He subsequently worked as Operations Oper-ations Manager and in collection; and escrow. For the past three years, he has worked in the Timeway Credit Department. Previous to his employment with First Security, Mr. Peterson Peter-son was in the lumber business m Heber. He served in the j Q 'I : L . . - Boyd Turnbow -T 1 LB - Jack Lazenby - Armed Forces in California and Alaska for two years, 1951-53. Active in the community, Mr. Peterson is a member of the Maeser townboard and is on the education committee of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce. He has held several responsible positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was recently released as a member mem-ber of the Maeser 1st Ward Bishopric. Mr. Peterson is married to the former Louise Lemon of Kamas, and has four children, two daughters and two sons. ROGER-RUSSELL COWAN PRESENTED JOE COWAN MEMORIAL AWARD The Joe Cowan Memorial Sports Award was presented by Coach J. Bennett Josie to Roger Cowan and Russell Cowan, younger brothers of the deceased DHS athlete, who died after a car accident near Duchesne. ! This award was announced at the May 23 achievement program held at the high school. The names of these senior student athletes will be engraved on the plaque trophy, which is retained at the school. Roger Cowan was named this year as the outstanding athlete for the Duchesne High School. These athletes are sons of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Cowan, Duchesne, and brothers of Jim Cowan. f - Kathleen Young - : . .;....:..-. " .::::.:;..: : -. " XT r - y . . . . . i ; . . . . .. n : v- - 1 , -. i - Pat Lamb - LITTLE LEAGUE NEEDS COACHES The Duchesne Minor Little Leagues are in need of coaches. These leagues consist of boys in the age group of seven to twelve. Anyone interested in a coaching job should contact Bob Gunter. The teams play their games on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 5:00 p. m. Double headers are played on Saturdays at 3:00 p. m. and 5:00 p. m. Last Saturday in their double header games, Kohl's beat Texaco with a score of six to five. Altamont won over Myton fifteen to two. Saturday, May 28, at 3:00 p. m. KohPs will play Altamont at Duchesne and at 5:00 p. m. Myton will play Texaco at Duchesne. Wednesday June 1 at 5:00 p.m. Altamont will play Myton at Altamont and Kohl's will play Texaco at Duchesne. The public is encouraged to attend these games and give the boys all their support. THE STRINGTIES TO PLAY AT MYTON LEGION The public is invited to attend a dance Saturday night, May 28 at the Myton American Ameri-can Legion Hall. NSS J - Keith Rhodes - Si il : I1! ft - Tex Gines - f DHS SPECIAL SPORTS AWARDS The outstanding wrestling, award for the Duchesne High School, in this first year of participation in the program, was awarded to Terry Lance, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Lance. Terry was given a lapel pin to signify the award. He participated in the regional wrestling meet. Coach Josie presented ribbons rib-bons to the other individuals who participated in the wrestling wrest-ling program, also. At the DHS achievement awards assembly, Coach Josie showed the trophy the Duchesne Duch-esne Junior Basketball Team wci at the Myton Tournament. The boys won first place. At this tournament, Bobby Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Bailey, was voted an "all star " player ; and Dennis Grant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Grant, was voted the most valuable player. YOUTH CORE PROJECT APPROVED WASHINGTON The U. S. Department of Labor has approved a Neighborhood Youth Corps project sponsored by the Duchesne County School District, Dis-trict, Rep. Laurence J. Burton Bur-ton (R-Utah) announced. The project will provide work experience opportunities for 22 in -school and 18 out -of -school enrollees and will cost a total of $17, 850, of which the Federal Government will provide $16, 060, Rep. Burton reported. Local coordinator for the project will be R.G. Ross. The Neighborhood Youth Corps is designed to provide part-time employment opportunities oppor-tunities for young men.'5' and women 16 through 21, to enable them to return to school or remain in school, or obtain the work experience necessary for obtaining a job. i TABIONA SEMINARY GRADUATION HELD Tabiona Seminary graduation gradua-tion exercises were held Thursday Thurs-day evening at the Tabiona Ward house. The theme, "Prayer is the Key to Heaven, but faith unlocks the door. " Talks were given by Eugene Chavez, Leah Webb, Owen I Van Tassell, Keith Rhoades, LuCinda Lee, Jack Lefler, Kathleen Young, VaLona Humes, a duet by Juanita Sweat & Beverly Clark. President Frank Walker from Vernal was guest speaker. Presentation of graduates grad-uates by instructor Ralph D. Erickson. Presentation of diplomas, di-plomas, President Elmer Moon, prayers were given by Norma Curry and Tex Gines, postlude music by Mrs. Carleene Williams. Wil-liams. The 1966 Seminary graduating class, included, Eugene Eu-gene Chavez, Beverly Clark, Norma Curry, Max Fabrizio, LaVon Giles, VaLona Humes, LuCinda Lee, Jack Lefler, Jim Rhoades, Juanita Sweat, Craig Thomas, Joy Turnbow, Owen Van Tassell and Leah Webb. Special certificates were given to Leon Jones and John Roberts. Post graduates were LeVere Fabrizio, Tex Gines, Jack Lazen-by, Lazen-by, Keith Rhoades,- Boyd Turn-bow Turn-bow and Kathleen Young. FOREST EMPLOYEES RECEIVE AWARDS Three employees of the Ashley National Forest received awards this week, announces A.R. McConie, Vernal, forest supervisor. He presented the awards to Levi Allen, forest engineer and William Davis, range, watershed and wildlife staff officers, ten-year service pins; and Val Simpson, district ranger, rang-er, Roosevelt, received a 20-year 20-year service pin. In making the awards, Mr. McConkie complimented the employees for their accomplish-ments accomplish-ments in management of national nat-ional forest lands. He indicated their high professional interest and ability had contributed to their accomplishments. |
