Show AWARDS ASSEMBLY HELD AT DUCHESNE HIGH SCHOOL The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was lead by Susan Mitchell; Ken Farnsworth gave the opening prayer and Louise Moon, the student body president, presi-dent, gave the welcome address. add-ress. Elden R. Wilcken, Americanism Ameri-canism chairman for Duchesne Post No. 22, The American Legion, presented the oratory awards and trophies to Laurel Hooper and Galen Hooper, senior sen-ior division first and second place winners; and to Colleen Freeman, the junior division first place winner. Marsha Fitzwater, student council historian, presented certificates to the ninth grade officers: Sherrie Roberts, president, pre-sident, who received a president's presi-dent's pin also; Kenneth Bench, vice president and Julie Marett, secretary; Adele Marett, presented pre-sented the certificates to the tenth grade officers, Rex Harrison, president; Carolyn Hamilton, vice president; Joyce Moon, secretary; Mike Bleazard, student council vice president, presented the certificate certi-ficate to the junior class officers offi-cers Eddie Brown, president; Ken Farnsworth, vice president; Carolyn Wright, secretary. Miss Moon presented the junior high school president, Randy Brady, with a certificate and he, in turn, awarded certificates certifi-cates to the other junior high officers - Keith Cowan, vice president; Mike Wilkinson, secretary; Serena Davies, historian; his-torian; Leesa Poulson, eighth grade president; and Melna Horrocks, seventh grade president. presi-dent. Marva Mae Horrocks, faculty fac-ulty members, presented Vicki Broadhead, a graduating honor student, with the outstanding homemaking award. Miss Horrocks also announced the winners in the girls track events at the Ashley Valley Junior Track Meet held last week at Vernal. Patsy Thompson won fourth place in the 50-yard dash; Claudia Davies, who coaches a group of students in athletic events, announced these winners at this track meet - LuAnn Harris, first place in the 75 yard dash; Windy Broadhead, fourth place in this event; and third place in the high jump; Valenna Moat, fifth place in the running broad jump. The seventh grade girls relay team won second place; and the eighth grade relay team took the fourth place prize. Marlin Boyer, faculty members, mem-bers, awarded the outstanding science award to Clinton Moon. He was given a science pin. Mr. Boyer presented Terry Wilkerson with the physics award, as the outstanding DHS student of the year in this study. A certificate of Science Club achievement was presented by this teacher to Dennis Kofford. Adele Marett awarded certificates cer-tificates to the junior varsity cheerleaders - Susan Mitchell, Sherrie Roberts, Marsha Fitzwater, Fitz-water, and Joyce Moon. Patricia Robbins, faculty member, presented awards to -the yearbook staff - Terry Wilkerson and Carolyn Wright, editor and co-editor; Ronald Taylor, Laurel Hooper, Lynn Poulson and Sally Wimmer. Terry Wilkerson received a pin as yearbook editor and Ronald Taylor received a pin as editor of the school paper. Miss Robbins awarded state speech certificates to Lynn Poulson, Shauna Freeman, Louise Moon, Judy Turner, Susan Mitchell, Adele Lewis, and Linda Stansfield. Miss Robbins presented Susan Mitchell with the outstanding out-standing speech student award. Glen Lewis presented industrial in-dustrial art achievement certificates certi-ficates to Leon Casper and Rodney Hamilton. Mr. Lewis presented the best all-round boy and girl student awards to Kenneth Farnsworth and Louise Moon. The Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Sportsman-ship award will have two new names added to the plaque -Linda Stansfield and Clinton Moon. Mr. Lewis presented Linda Stansfield with the "school spirit" award. Marsha Fitzwater presented certificates of achievement to service club presidents Ken Farnsworth and Carolyn Wright. Miss Merlynn Taylor of the faculty presented commercial commer-cial contest certificates to winners: Shorthand Dorothy Lewis, superior -minus rating; typewriting, second year, ) Adele Marett, excellent; Shauna Freeman, excellent; Charlotte Timothy, good; Sherrie Roberts, good; Melanie Meriwether, good; Susan Mitchell, honorable mention. First year typing - Adele Lewis, good; Maureen Moon, excellent; Julie Marett, superior-minus; and Marsha Fitzwater, superior-minus. Louise Moon presented certificates of achievement to Sally Wilkerson, president of the Future Home makers of America Club at DHS, and to Debutantes1 president, Claudia Davies. Mrs. Ha H. Sanford, school secretary, presented 100 percent attendance certificates to Terry Wilkerson and Terry 'Stephenson. J. LaMar Gillen of the DHS faculty, awarded a tuiton schol-. schol-. arship to Louise Moon, to the Brigham Young University - this scholarship stipulates if Miss Moon, the 1966 DHS graduating class valedictorian, maintains a B grade or better average, the scholarship is renewable for the years she attends college at BYU. Mr. Gillen recognized Valenna Va-lenna Moat and Elizabeth Goff, art class students, for their Poppy Posters, which won first and second place, respectively, 1 in the District Nine, The ' American Legion Auxiliary contest for Duchesne and Uintah counties. Mike Bleazard presented the varsity cheerleaders with leadership leader-ship certificates and pins -Louise Moon, Linda Stansfield, Claudia Davies and Judy Turner, Allan Bates, music instructor, instruc-tor, gave an award to Lee Moon, as the most promising and outstanding music student; and Mark Hansen received an award for being the "most improved" im-proved" music student. Principal J. Keith Rogers presented pins and certificates to Adele Marett and Lynn Poulson as the outstanding boy and girl in scholarship at DHS. Mike Bleazard presented certificates to the faculty, and announced the "Go to State " poster contest was won by the seventh grade, and the class will receive $10 cash prize. Principal Rogers complimented compli-mented the seniors for having the outstanding assembly program pro-gram for the year. The class will receive $10. Louise Moon awarded the outstanding faculty member plaque trophy to Principal J. Keith Rogers. Michele Fitzwater, vice president of the Debutantes Marching Unit, showed the trophy the Debutantes purchased for her. New student officers were sworn into office - Eddie Brown, president; Ronald Taylor, vice president; Carolyn Wright, secretary; Susan Mitchell, historian. his-torian. Principal Rogers presented the trophy to the athletes, which will have the scores of all basketball games played this year engraved upon it. The trophy was accepted by Coach Josie.
