Congratulations! The J.V. and Sophomore football teams also deserve congratulations for their excellent records this season. Next years team is the sure one to beat. Also while we are congratulating, we cant forget the Girl's Tennis Team. They had a super season this year with new hopefuls in the Amy Bell - Amy Marcussen team. Despite our three losses this year to various schools, the latest being Highland, we still have an awesome team to be proud of with a great bunch of guys backing it up. Football player, Vince Lombardi, once said, I never failed in a game, the clock just ran out of time. Take care and hang loose, fun! but most important--hav- e Falcon Forum By CHAD McBRIDE The time flies when youre busy with school, but I must say this is the funnest time I have ever had being busy. There was a very depressing note last week as our mighty Flacon football team fell to the Bonneville Lakers. Our team will play their last game of the regular season Friday at Box Elder High School. Good luck towards a vital win! All of the other sports for the fall season have pretty well wrapped up. The girls tennis team did well in region, and sent a doubles team to state. The cross country team wrapped up their season with an impressive showing at Sugarhouse Park. They had individual places and took an overall fourth. Finally, our volleyball team stands at 3 in Region play and looks on to playing in the state tournament. There is much pride at Clearfield because of these fine athletes. Thanks to all of them. 5-- Finally, a suggestion for all of those citizens who are over eighteen. It is estimated that only 57 percent of the voting population will turn out to vote for their favorite candidate. Please take time from your day on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to support your candidates and make your vote count. portant school program. WILLIS, CPA Becky Lazenby, vice president and Heather Upton, secretary. The group meets after or before school as needed. Sometimes CLASS members listen to a speaker or watch a video program. The group has the responsibility of planning several special activities during the school year that will help Centrals studentbody learn about drug and alcohol abuse and the prevention. They will participate in the Davis District Drug Awareness Week Nov. 5 and in Lancer Lines By RADON GATHERUM Once agan, here I am with all the exciting events of the week, all in one place written just for your information. Was that an impressive introduction or what? Well, anyway, as you all know, the first term is now officially over. What an experience! Lets get right to the weeks events, before I start to get boring. Today, there is a volleyball game. Box Elder is coming here, and it should be an excellent game. Our volleyball team has been doing an excellent job of representing our school. Good luck team! There is no school Friday! Yea! Friday night there is a Halloween stomp, everybody dress up and have a good time! Now its time for the thought of the week. This thought is designed to help you make it through the second term with better grades. INDIVIDUALS Up through 1986, tax returns reflected a zero bracket amount of approximately $3,400 on the Schedule A of an itemized tax return. This amount was already reflected in the tax tables so it was subtracted from total itemized deductions on the Schedule A. Starting in 1987, the zero bracket amount is eliminated and we return to a standard deduction. The standard deduction is available to all taxpayers whether they itemize or not. Beginning in 1987, the standard deduction on a joint return is $3,760, $2,540 for heads of household and single individuals, and $1,880 for married filing separately. For 1988, the deduction will be $5,000 on a joint return and $3,000 for an unmarried individual. New in 1987 will be an additional $600 of standard deductions for individuals who are over 65 and-o- r who are blind, for a maximum of $2,400 for married filing jointly. For single individuals, the amount is $750 for each status. Another exception for the elderly and blind is their ability to use in 1987 and 1988 standard deduction of $5,000 for joint returns and $3,000 for single returns. The standard deduction for an individual who can be claimed as a dependant or another taxpayers return (such as a child) is limited. The standard deduction for that dependant cannot exceed his earned income (i.e. , W-- 2 earnings) plus an additional $500 of his unearned income (i.e., interest income). BUSINESS The new tax law has changed the present Accelerated Cost Recovery System or depreciating assets for business purposes. Assets placed in service after December 31, 1986 are depreciated generally ovei a longer life. For instance, automobiles, technological equipment over a 5 year light trucks, and ce. 200 method. A!o aalifying assets placed in service after July 31,1 986 and before December 31, 986 may elect to use the new methods of depreciation. The explanation for depreciating of assets is very lengthy. A detailed description of all the changes and transition rules is not practical in such an article. To know that there is a change and election available is most important at this point. Any further understanding will have to be sought by the reader with his consultants. One thing that may help individuals understand the change is the fact the new requirements are very similar to methods used in 1980 and prior tax returns. When the exhibit is over, some of your comments will be published in Lancer Lines. One more thing before 1 go.
