Yet in soccer, baseball or track you can go any time you want and see everything. Most obvious of the absentees are the girls of the pep club or the cheerleaders. I guess in school the girls are only required to attend the football and basketball games, this is wrong. High School Tennis: Afo. One Singles IF A GIRL is in the pep club then they should be required to support all the school athletic activities, not just the big two. Maybe its the spring fever or something, but whatever it is, the students seem to want to do anything but support their teams in the spring time. TENNIS IS a great sport, in high school or anywhere else, but the high school coaches have a little rule that doesnt set right with me. It seems that the coaches decide who is going to play number one singles at each school. What if a player doesnt want to play first singles? THIS WEEK IS the deciding week in spring sports. The track and tennis teams have their region meets. Baseball will decide which two teams go on to the state tournament. Soccer also decided which two of their teams go to the state tournament. There are a lot of high school athletic activities that are going on this coming week. Call your favorite high school for their schedule and go support these athletes, dw a THERE ARE six - 1500 FOR EXAMPLE suppose you, as a high school tennis player, are the best player in the school, yet you know there are a number of top players at the other high schools that can beat you. Other sports throughout the year also have this same problem. A baseball player or a track runner puts in as much time, effort and sacrifice as any football or basketball player does, yet he doesn't receive the same recognition as the latter two. Meacham. The coaches say its supposed to stop what they call stacking a tournament. By this they mean a team cant drop their number one player to play number two and on down the line. Region Two Sets h Track Meet Friday By DAVE WIGHAM This Friday at the stadium of Weber State College the Region Two track and field teams will meet to determine their champion for the year. IF THE dual meet results are any indication of what the teams are like, then the only remaining question to be decided at the region championship is by how far will the Clearfield team win. The Falcons have run away from everyone in head to head competition, but the region meet seems to always be full of surprises. Viewmont Coach Bob Ashdown noted that some : who didnt parin any dual meets show up for the region meet. athletes ticipate THERE would have to be of these type of athletes show up to prevent the Falcons from winning the championship. Clearfield has individuals that are favored and they also have the depth needed to win the team trophy. Leading the Falcons is their sprint man Robbie Richeson who has won every dual meet this year in both the 100 and 220. Laytons Tony Riney has been right on Robbies heals and should give a good showing in the region meet, but Richeson should win both sprints. CLEARFIELD should get first place points in the 440 with Ron Peterson wearing - the Falcons colors. Jeff Trussel, another Falcon could finish in the top three but the Layton squad has a couple of good quarter milers themselves in Clint Douglas and DISCOUNT AUTO I Don Douglas. The games, sponsored by the Utah Cerebral Palsy Association, will be played on July 29 at Logan and on July 30 in Provo. The top ten players from these two games will then be selected to play with Bountifuls Paul Stout and Clearfields Bob Berrera given best shots. Long jump competition should be highly competitive with several individuals having a good chance at winning. In their battle with Ogden last week the Falcons got ex cellent pitching from Glen Abeyta who limited the usually hot Tiger bats to 7 hits.
