Those words couldnt have been said better after the way Bonneville crushed Clearfield in Region One openers for both clubs. The final score was Bonneville 26 Clearfield?. The passing ' S the Laker running back scored last touchdowns three Friday to help make the Laker's a homecoming charming success. EE is now has nine touchdowns this season, all coming on the ground. MARVELOUS MARVIN I, of Junior Cory Sylvester and the amazing foot work of senior Marv Ellis were Just too much for the visiting Clearfield team. Things couldnt have been better for a Laker homecoming attraction. The full grand stand of Laker fans seem to more or less expect a treat from their talented speedster, Ellis. Marvin didnt let anyone down and eventually ended the day with three touchdowns which included a punt return for a score. What was amazing was the 56-ya-rd comeback of quarterback Cory Sylvester. The Junior signal caller hit 14 of 20 passes for 180 yards. Sylvester missed the Lakers first two games and most of the third due to a illness. But he came back in true form last Friday, especially in the first half when he hit 8 of ll passes for pre-seaso- 84 yards. n - Bonneville however, wasnt a quality quarterback to back-uSylvester dwing his without p. illness. Senior Rich Blackburn, did a splendid Job in starting the season for Coach Tom Budge and as he said, We were fortunate to have a player of Blackburns caliber to back us up. Bonneville took the opening kickoff and went 80 yards in 10 plays for the games first score. Sylvesters passing did most of the damage. Lloyd Tosgisala, Dan Call, and Marv Ellis each hauled in passes in the initial drive. It was Ellis that good-yarda- ge finally pounced over the goal line with 7:16 left in the first quarter. Ted Rickard, who seldom misses extra points, missed two in the first half. Clearfield was unable to get much of an offensive drive going in the first half and had to count a Bonneville fumble as the thing of most worth. Tim Gooch made a couple of mad bursts after that, recovery, but failure to convert a third down play meant calling for the field goal unit. Brook Hicks then booted a field goal Just as. the second quarter got underway. The long punt return for a TD and another short run by Ellis gave the La ken a 1M halftime lead. : Clearfield made a respectable drive following the second half rd kickoff, hut was forced to surrender the ball midway into Bonneville territory.
