Show PAGE 16 THE ZEPHYR AUGUST 1991 the zephyr gallery j i i i 37 JFKUV In first grade I realized I had art abilities and in 5 years my room was covered, ceiling also, with drawings. I wanted to make real art like the masters. I started painting at age 12. Although our high school was classed AAA, second largest category, it never offered art in the 4 years I was there. Art was not something to encourage in an industrial racist football oriented cultural wasteland. I met a commercial artist in Galveston, Don G. Davis, who gave me a few drawing lessons and 5 years of encouragement He was trained as a fine artist at Kansas Gty Art Institute. I took a few courses at San Francisco Art Institute and began the routine I follow today. Painting and drawing. In 1965 1 moved to Austin, Texas and lived there till 1985 when I moved toMoab. I first came to Moab 9 years earlier. I felt at home in Moab. Much like my home town except Moab is located in the most stimulating landscape in the gggHESESSE |
