Show EARLY PIONEER george harding an old and highly respected pioneer of utah passed to the great beyond at the family home in cilladi utah where he has been a resident since 1851 at 8 p m wednesday evening march ath mr harding was the son ot of dwight and phoebe holbrook harding born december IS 18 1833 at wethersfield field senecca county new york was con ormed armed a member in the church by patriarch hyrum smith saw and conversed with the prophet joseph smith he in connection with his parents was among those who followed the church from its early beginning having been driven in its early eions from one place to another until in the year of 1851 when the family joined with other families came to utah As a young man he was called to many positions of honor and trust in tsai he was called to work by bishop hunter to assist in hauling material tor for the building of the salt lake temple earlier having assisted as a boy in doing odd jobs around the nati nan temple and later working on the logan temple from the year 1853 until 1864 he spent much time freighting having made several trips to the missouri river for supplies he was also called about this time to help drive fifteen hundred head of 0 church cattle to california which had been sold and were to be delivered at san F francisco ran cisco at the time johnsons army came to utah he was called as one of the defenders ot of our homes in what was known as the garmy in all mr harding made five round trips across the plains by ox os teams besides several freighting trips to montana and california california his experiences have as a pioneer been rich in historical instances he came to willard when water tor for home use had to be hauled from the mouth of the canyon in barrels he assisted in building the first rock sect from the canyon tor for irrigation purposes he also helped build and attended the first school established in northern utah in all civic and educational cat ional enterprises ho he has contributed liberally As a church worker he be has ever been enthusiastic and faithful to the end mr harding was married to mary jones in the year 1864 whose death occurred in 1913 from this union the following sons and daughters survive him dwight mary and phoebe harding of willard Wll lard ralph J and alice harding ot of malad idaho mrs nancy IL nichols and mrs sarah horsley of brigham city george D harding of tooele thoele and olive E facer of provo who were at his bedside when the end came he is al alao 0 sur toyed by thirteen grand ch children ildra and anc ope one sister mrs elizabeth zundel 0 of riverside utah funeral she vices will be held in the willard ward chapel at I 1 saturday afternoon under the direction of bishop ephraim white interment will be made at the willard cemetery |
