Show Death At Night HftrS? pX14620 DAYLIGHT I During the normal hours of daylight day-light last year, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to statistics of the Travelers Trav-elers Insurance Company, there were 14,620 persons killed in automobile accidents, while in the normal hours of darkness, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., there were 21,480 deaths. This record rec-ord raises the question, "Shouldn't drivers and pedestrians be afraid of the dark?" The exceedingly high rate of death per accident for the normal hours of darkness puts the spotlight on the conditions and conduct of drivers and pedestrians responsible for such a record of fatalities after sun down. At night drivers can't easily aVold what they can't see. This la something that pedestrians need to remember. |
