Classifieds are for everyone HAW) Warrior librarian notes retirement by Keith Duncan Who has scored two hole in one golf shots, ice skates, plays a little tennis now and then, has been an active supporter of her political party, finds time to swim, is active in church duties, knows a library inside out and is planning a retirement from Weber High as ' the librarian for the past 19 years. Yes, you guessed it, Maxine Williams.. After 19 years of service to Weber High School as a librarian, Mrs. Williams has found the courage to announce her retirement. Her active career in the Weber School District will be talked about for years to come and her bright personality sorely missed. , With the retirement though, Mrs. Williams will be finding more time to improve her strokes on the' golf course and in the swimming pool. Sometimes I wake up feeling good inside knowing Ill be able to spend more time with my husband and doing some of the other things Ive always wanted to do. Then other mornings, Ive felt knowing Soon Independant leaving behind Ive throughly enjoyed doing. Its been an for me emotional something see-sa- w said Maxine. Mr. John Oliver, who head the Media Center at Weber High, made the following comments about Mrs. Super organizer. Williams, y She almost built the working part of our library. I suppose the most exciting thing is that she knows so much about the working nature of it. Maxine has read so many books and is so helpful to the kids, just because of the knowledge single-handedl- ShMrs. Williams is well after her arrival at Weber, Mrs. Williams was put in charge of the heartbroken Im liked by the students, and I guess thats because she has been so even tempered. She seldom gets angry and her patience in finding materials for students always amazes me. Shes a super worker. Ive never known her to start a job and not finish it. Well all miss her. In 1960, Mrs. Williams came to the old Weber High on Washington Blvd. While golfing one day with Ruth Bell, the wife of Ted Bell who was the superintendent of schools, the subject of a new librarian at Weber arose. Maxine expressed interest immediately and it wasnt long before she started a faithful career. Mrs. Williams graduated from Weber High and upon her hiring at the school, many of the instructors she had had in school were still teaching. Today only two other members of Weber Highs teaching staff exist when Mrs. Williams began at Weber. Rao Parker and Dr. Ellis have been at Weber for 19 or more years. ' Reading Library, where students with special needs were assisted. For the next eight years she served over this department and administrators termed it a success. Its difficult for me to put 19 years in to words. The time has flown by so quickly, but the work here has been fantastic for me. The learning Ive gained in these years has been all I could do to keep ahead of the students. You really have to know what is going one with the quality of students now a days, stated Mrs. Williams. Maxine remembers spending hours at home and researching materials for rediscovering teachers and students. I did it just because I wanted to help them, said Maxine. She still recalls the day that a student approached her asked for help in finding an important poem. All the student had to go by was the work hermit." It was dictionary after dictionary, book after book, and quote after quote, but finally the much sought wanted and much after poem was SALE Mrs. Williams is the wife to Mr. O.C. Williams (Kelly). They reside at 975 Henderson and are the parents to two children, Kent Williams of Clinton and Mrs. Kathy of Wilson Seattle, Washington. Its time now to enjoy some leisure time in volunteer work for the Red Cross, enjoy some new sewing classes, and get more involved in church work. (With $50.00 Min. The need for organization of the Weber High library was apparent with the knowledge of students and the increasing number of books.
