Show UTAH CAPITAL AND OIL FIELDS "I do not believe the business men and capitalists of Salt Lake are giving giv-ing the, newly awakening oil resources re-sources of the State the attention they deserve," remarked a well known mining engineer and operator. "If they were, we would not see Wyoming Wy-oming and other western states so far in the lead. Do you know that oil in commercial quantities was discovered dis-covered in Utah before it was ever thought of in Wyoming? Also it was found here before the big fields of Kansas, Oklahoma and other states had been discovered. "Not only that, but Utah has the very same geological conditions as Wyoming. It has more of them and richer oil shales than possibly any other state in the union. Wyoming is today producing 40,000 to 50,000 barrels of high-grade oils every day, and Utah none. Why?- "Something like ten years ago commercial oil was struck in both the Virgin field and the San Juan field. I know of one man with a little lit-tle well down in San Juan who sold as much as 8000 barrels of oil to neighboring drillers when that field was active a few years ago. There was one spouter down there of high-grade high-grade paraffin oil. Dozens of experts and practical oil men from all parts of the world have inspected Utah oil fields and pronounced them equal to any known. All that is necessary is ! the capital and a little expert or prac-l prac-l tical oil brains mixed with it. And then you would see the Utah oil fields start off right. "True, the fields are isolated, but that is generally true of all new-fields. new-fields. Just go in and demonstrate what is there and the transportation problem will solve itself. Our oil fields need capital and publicity, and then they are off. They will some day prove the biggest thing yet started in Utah." |
