She is greatly concerned over Utahs chances in football this fall and between shows managed to slip out to the game against the College of Idaho yesterday afternoon. . THERE are many Utah friends of DeWitt C. Jennings, the noted Salt Lake actor, who appeared in a sketch with Theodore Roberts at tbe Orpheum recently, that are not aware of the splendid service which Mr. Jennings rendered his country during the world war. Shortly nfter the great conflict had gotten well under way, Mr. Jennings went to Cnleago to fill an engagement and while there played golf daily with Judge K. M. Landis, who was then on the federal bench. One day the actor aid to Judge Landis. Judge, it strikes me as a shame and at the same time it humiliates me when I realize that a lot of actors who are above the age limit and cannot enlist are virtually being prevented from doing their bit for their country. Judge Landis was silent for a moment and then said: DeWitt, I Jielieve -J ranr fuetbat Yof you.'' That evening. Mr Jennings and Judge Landes called upon the Chicago chief of tbe department of justices bureau of investigation. The next day Mr. Jennings was on bis way to Washington, where he" conferred with the supreme bead of the department. The matter was arranged at once and Mr. Jennings was placed at tbe head of a bureau in New York Citv, Here the noted actor surrounded himself with a large and competent force all ictorp and procured quarters, rent free, in a building owned dt George Cohan. Under Mr. Jennings werq ten captains and under each of the eapthina were ten lieutenants, in addition to a small army of trusted privates!1 From the time the offiee was opened in New York untiUhCarmistiee was igned, Mr. Jennings ami his force worked night and dv They passed, for example, on every actor and actress who went acroes'llie water to entertain the soldiers, or on other missions. They also figur'd the passports of all Red Cross workers.and many others called to Jhe"6ther aide, either by duty or business. In addition, they investigated jyretJerman cases, draft evading and other similar matters. Among the membership of Mr. Jennings force were seventy five members of the famous Limbs club in New" York, but so quietly and seeretfv was the business conducted that other members of the dub were unaware of the existence of bureau until the war was at an end. During the existence of the bureau JJj more than 17,000 eases were investigated. In recognition of the excellent services rendered, Mr. Jennings was later presented with a handsomely engrave,! certificate of merit by tbe department of justice. The bureau of which Mr. Jennings was the head was known as The National "Actors Intelligence Division of the Department of Justice. aetnr-plaTwri- and,-havi- ng , .... ewe CALT LAKERS who met Theodore Robert off stage during his presentation of "The Man Higher the Orpheum theater recently expressed both bis marvelous makeup aa "Dr. Mueller, admiration and wonder atUp,at German specialist, in the thrilling sketch It is said of Mr. Roberts that in the entire field of acting, both on the legitimate stage and tbe acreen, he baa only one or two rivals in the art of make-up- .
