Show HENRY FORD GETS BACK TO NORMAL HENRY FORD has lowered the price of his cars and tractors to practically the pre-war level. He did it without threat of indictment and without with-out waiting for market conditions to force him to the cut. For this the New York Sun-Herald calls him a great merchant. The well-known ultimate consumer will wish heartily that there were some great merchants mer-chants like him handling shoes, clothing, flour, sugar and all the necessities that now cost so much more than in the good old days. Henry Ford's act is bound to make it harder for the big corporations of the country to get away with their varied and sometimes illogical excuses for present prices of their products. It may not be supposed that wc favor a slump in prices that would close the factories and shut down the mines of the nation. We need to get back to normal, then what the nation most needs is stability. The consumer needs the assurance that prices will not rocket. The producer needs assurance that prices pric-es will not drop. Then industry can plan for the future and wage agreements can be made that will not have to be adjusted every six months to meet new conditions. We need the resurrection of that dependable pre-war slogan, "Business as usual." |
