The Union Pacific system program for the development of the scenic resources of southern Utah involves expenditure (luring the coming summer sum-mer that may be roughly placed at $1,500,000. This is a part of a $5,000,000 program pro-gram for the development of the southern part of the state, tributary to the Salt Lake route, for which appropriation ap-propriation has been made by the directors di-rectors of the company. The first step in that program, of course, is the construction of the rnilraod branch line from Lund to Cedar City, of which other branches will serve the mines in Iron county, coun-ty, from which the ores will be smelt ed at the steel plant to be erected near Provo. Word comes from Cedar Ce-dar City that the contractor for the construction work, the Utah Construction Con-struction company' is under orders to begin on the new line next Thursday, Thurs-day, March 2 2. The process of assembling ties and rails for the new road at Lund has been going on for some time and a large amount of material is already on the ground. a |
