Show U I ROUSING RALLY AT FARMINGTON i The Court House Crowded Lalt Evening to Hear the Democratic Demo-cratic SpeaKers I Notwithstanding that most of the country I coun-try people are in the midst of harvesting and consequently when night comes glad enoughto go home and to rest an I immense crowd of people turned out last night to the Democratic meeting held at b Farmington The County Court House t was packed hundreds returning home unable to get in the building The addresses ad-dresses were delivered by Messrs A B Thompson A L Williams and Simon I Bamberger respectively The general 1 tenor of the remarks was in urging the > people as citizens of a free and representative repre-sentative government to think act and vote for themselves independent of any man or set of men in showing up the political condition of our Tenitory and I the jumbledup statutory enactments I I which have been passed by the Legislature Legis-lature and that as a lawmaking power the Utah Legislature has been insufficient because incompetent Railroad Rairoad monopolies monop-olies were spoken of and the manner in which tliBrleaders and managers of the I I Peoples imrty have ignored the people I in that they made all arrangements for i the coming election without the common j I courtesy of even consulting their constituents I I consti-tuents whose suffrages they rely upon i for success next Monday The people should protest against this unAmerican I method of conducting elections and assent I as-sent their rights and demand a voice and recognition in the conventions and ar rngement made to carry on the business busi-ness and details of our government Each speaker though speaking pointedly and with emphasis of the evils existing in Utah < did so dispassionately and in accordance ac-cordance with Democratic principles appealing ap pealing to the intelligence and judgment of the people The gathering was very orderly although al-though the house was jammed to overflowing over-flowing there being present more young men and more young women than at another an-other meeting held during this campaign The people listened very attentively and by the frequent applause it was evident the new gospel of Democracy new to many of thepeople has had its ct J At the close of this the first Democratic Democrat-ic campaiga ever carried on this Territory Terri-tory there will have been held nearly a dozen meetings in this district and the people have been talked to in altogether a different strain than that which they have heretofore experienced The principles prin-ciples of Democracy have been presented I pre-sented to the people and they have had their effect In mote instances than anyone is aware a disposition dispo-sition has been aroused in the minds of many young men to think and act for themselves They are beginning to realize that they have aright I a-right to recognition in the management I of public affairs The idea that the people I peo-ple are the highest source of authority is new to many of them but it has been presented to them in such force that they I begin to see and comprehend its potency I Democracy has dared to beard the lion in his den in this campaign and the results re-sults have been greater than some arc I willing and honest enough to acknowledge acknowl-edge and although the party expect nothing else but defeat this election the sponge will not be thrown up hut by persistency and agitation agita-tion in the future a Hhowing will be made and such a showing too as will make the dominant party I quake and tremble because of the advance ad-vance that will have been made in establishing es-tablishing in this misruled Territory a the party people of principle by the people and for Discourage no brave resolute Democrat Demo-crat should be notwithstanding certain de feat on Monday Let the good work goon go-on and Time the great and universal modifier will bring victory in spite of the lethargical indifference on the one hand and petty jealously and blasted ambition on the other |
