Show v ... DANIEL O'CONNELL'S POLITICAL CREED. My political creed is short and simple. sim-ple. It consists in believing that all men are entitled as of right and justice; to religious and civil liberty. I dt strvo no credit for being the advocate of religious re-ligious liberty, as my wants al.mt- re. I quire such advocacy; but I have takn care to require it only on thfi principle princi-ple which would equally grant it to all sects and persuasions, which. whil it emancipated the Catholics in Ireland, would protect the Trotestants in, France and Italy, and destroy the inquisition, in-quisition, together with the inquisitors. in Spain. Religion is debased and degraded de-graded by human interference; an t surely the worship cf the Deity cannot but be contaminated by the admixture of the worldly ambition and human force. Such are my sentiments. |
