Air Force officials in Washington said the command gained three overseas Strategic Air Command installations under the United States Air Forces in Europe and a number of others worldwide as the Space Command assumes operational capability. Gains some USAFE units On May 1, Space Command gained Detachment 6, 1st Strategic Aerospace Division at Kapaun, West Germany. That unit will be renamed Det. 6, 1st Space Wing, Baker Nunn. A site at San Vita AS, Italy, will also transfer to the command with no name change. In addition, SAC's 19th Surveillance Squadron at Pirinclik, Turkey, will transfer to the command. Its name will remain the same and USAFE will remain the host command, officials said. -- Base transfers include Thule and Sondrestrom ABs in Greenland, and Clear AFS, Alaska. In addition to base transfers, on May 1 the command gained 22 worldwide missile warning, space surveillance and weather units from SAC.
