Show BLACKLEG NOW IN THE VALLEY "Within the past two weeks no less than six cases of blackleg have broken out among the cattle in the valley," said Dr. R. C. Swalberg to a Mows representative, yesterday, "and inasmuch as tho disease has broken out it is well that- the farmers know the conditions so that every precaution precau-tion can be taken to stamp out the disease while it is yet in ils infancy. It is suggested that every farmer owning cattle in this valley cooperate cooper-ate in this matter and check, as far as practical, the disease before it gains any headway." Dr. Swalberg stated that some 200 head had been vaccinated already and that where the remedy had been applied satisfactory results had been obtained. Not alone is there blackleg here, but many horses have been afflicted and the malady has been diagnosed as spinal meningitis. The affliction is due to stagnant water, according to a report received from the state chemist, who recently analyzed samples sam-ples sent in from here. It has been discovered that many owning horses are in the habit of letting the water run from taps, filling corrals win: pools of water and the filth and heat make a bad condition which has resulted re-sulted in bringing about the disease among the horses. Xo fatalities have been reported as yet. but unless precautions pre-cautions are taken to stop the disease, dis-ease, bad results are sure to follow. |
