Dtar llernld: On last Saturday the Kooky Mountain Moun-tain I'omological Society assisted by tlie St. George Gardener's Club, held their annual fair at the Gardener's Club Hall.' at' which the display of fruits excelled anything of the kind I ever saw. . , Of grapes there wero nearly 100 varieties var-ieties ou exhibition, mostly foreign. Some specimens were-of exceedingly large size, and included the most luscious lus-cious sorts, for table use, wino and raisins, known to civilization; together with teveral seedlings of great excel lence and size. Of old Mission, B. II. Pendleton exhioitcd specimens very' large and fineof black Hamburg,, VV. ' E. Dodge and X. Ashley showed specimens spec-imens bard to beat in any 'country; of Jarvis Seedlings, Geo. Jarvis exhibited the Jarvis and? liio Virgcn, of much beauty, size and excellence. Kichard ilentley exhibited the finest fruit and raisins of Fiber Zago.s, that were a pleasant siht to look upon. The table of 42 varitii.:3, furnished by J. K. Johnson, John-son, included splendid samples of white Malaga, Bowood, Muscat, white Muscat Mus-cat of Alexandria, -white Nice, white Muscatel, Muscat Hamburg, and gross Column of huge size; together with the seedless Sultana and many other fine sorts, and Malaga raisins. J. '. Crosley exhibited a very lurj'o grupe! n.-imu unknown. The exhibition of grape was far superior to any prrTiow ' one iu the Territory. The show of apples was good, but could not compare with the grapes, peari and peaches. Of the latter very fine specimens were . present; but a large dish of seedlings, giown by J. E. Johnson, eclipsed all competitions, for beauty and size, some of which weighed 13 ounces each. - ; ; ' There were also plums and figs, fresh and dried, and a tine dish of strawberries. i The entries of vegetables," grain, textile tex-tile fabrics, needle-work, Ac, were not as extensive and fine as should have - been; the great effect appearing in the , fruit.- .j The exhibition of vtiues was very fair, with but three competitors, viz., Messrs. Dodge, Pendleton and Terry ; the awards being in rotation with the names above. ,;,," . ., L i : The fair was well intended, :ind awards of committees reported.
