Elder Richards is the third apostle in direct family descent. His father was President George F. Richards of the Council of the sponsibility. He has filled four missions and presided over two of them. He has served as bishop of three wards, as high councilor and as stake president. For 14 years he was the presiding bishop of the church and has been a member of the Council of the Twelve since April, 1952. Elder Richards is the author of three widely read church books of which A Marvelous Work and a Wonder is perhaps the best known.
