N Y David David Bennett Dennett Hillis Hill Hillis is dead Senator Hill had been suffering suffering suffering suf suf- fering from a cold and billious attack attack attack at at- tack of three weeks' weeks standing He was sitting up in bed to take a drink of water when he was seized with acute dilation of the th heart Death followed quickly with no one but a nurse at his bedside David Bennett Hilt Hill was born August August August Au Au- gust 29 1843 He was elected to the assembly in 1870 and again in 1871 For many years Mr Hill was a member member mem memo ber bel of the Democratic state committee commit commit- tee and in 1876 and 1884 he was a delegate to the th national convention which nominated Tilden and Cleveland Cleveland CleveLand Cleve Cleve- land In 1882 he was elected lieutenant with governor on the same ticket Grover Cleveland and following Cleveland's election to the presidency of f the United States Mr Hill became governor subsequently elected for two terms He was governor for seven years In 1891 Mr Hill was elected United States tates senator and in 1894 he was once more the candidate for governor but ut was defeated by Levi P. P Morton his ais Republican opponent Mr 11 Hillas Hill was ras as the candidate for the nomination for or president in 1892 but Grover Cleveland was elected for that office In 1894 Mr Hill was credited with being eing the political sponsor of Alton B.
