Its nice to be back at the old typewriter again and once more Im reminded of the words of Shakespeare "If all the year were playing holidays, to sport would be as tedious as work. It was nice to have a change of pace and catch up on a few things that needed attention. Theres been a lot happening on the national scene hasnt there? Im sure youve had plenty of food for thought every time you picked up a newspaper. Now its time to pull up that old easy chair and find out what the Party Line wires have been buzzing about the past few days. Stork Reports The Leonard Ash household is busy deciding on a name for their new baby daughter who was born on Oct. 19. Her big brothers and sisters, Racquel, Christine, Robert, Sonja, Steven and Eddie you may be sure are helping with the decision too. Grandparents welcoming the little pink bundle are Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Ash of Pleasant Grove and Mrs. Margaret Wright of Orem and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Wicken of Fillmore. The Vernon Binghams are ts Cancer quackery is topic for civic club ibers of Civic Im-ne- nt club will gather for monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 3:30 p.m. at the Brigham City community center. Dr. Charles R. Smart, cancer surgeon and chairman of the Utah State Medical association cultism and quackery committee, and Dr. Whitney Young, assistant director. Salt Lake City Health department, will speak on cancer quackery in Utah. Dr. Smart is a native of Ogden, and a graduate of the University of Utah. He received his medical degree from the Templd University School of Medicine. He has taught and done research in many areas relating to cancer including cancer chemotherapy, "What's New in Cancer, and computerization of tumor registry at the University of California in Los Angeles. Currently he is an Associate Professor of surgery at the University of Utah College of Medicine. He also serves as division chief, cancer planning, Intermountain Medical program; Regional director of operational cancer teaching program, and career coorUtah University of Medicine; and a member of the board of directors of the Utah division of the American Cancer Society. He is a consultant to five boards. Dr. Smart was instrumental in authorizing a bill to outlaw cancer quackery in Utah, which was defeated by the 1973 Utah House of Representatives. This legislation will be proposed again, and club president Mrs. Byron Armstrong urges all members to be present to acquaint themselves with the bill. Norma Jean Sheffield, daughter of the Boyd Sheffields was married in the Los Angeles LDS temple on Oct. 12. Also attending the wedding were the brides sister Mrs. Boyce Carlson and daughters Lisa Jane and Carolyn of Willard. Mrs. Schroeder (Elva) and Mrs. Carlson (Saundra) were bridesmaids and Lisa Jane and Carolyn Carlson were junior bridesmaids. Following the wedding and reception the newlyweds flew to San Francisco, then St. Paul, Minn, where they visited her brother Bill and family who were unable to go to California for the wedding. After their visit in St. Paul they flew back to Seattle then on to Anchorage, Alaska where the bridegroom is stationed with the U. S. Navy. Visit Here Mrs. Stella Seifert is enjoying a visit from her son and Mr. and Mrs. daughter-in-laBob Seifert of Atlanta, Ga. He is employed with General Electric in that city. They will spend ten days here visiting friends and relatives. On Tuesday of last week his sister and brother-in-laMr. and Mrs. C. R. Ruthstrom of Ogden entertained at dinner. A niece Mrs. Judy Behumin entertained at dinner at the Galleon room at Hotel Ben Lomond in Ogden. Attending the dinner in addition to the visitors were Mrs. Stella Seifert, the Ruthstroms and Carl Ruthstrom. They are also planning a day in Salt Lake City for dinner and visiting interesting sites. Mrs. DeVere (Janet Gordon) Adams of Fielding Box shares a delightful bean casserole recipe with Elder Journal readers this week. Janet and her husband have two sons, Darryl and Douglas, and a daughter, Jana Dee, who complete their family unit. I was horn in Smithfieid and am a graduate of North Cache High school Janet said. My parents owned and opearted a floral shop and my two sisters and I did a good deal of the cooking. We seemed to inherit the love of cooking from our mother who is considered an exceptionally good cook. I also took cooking classes in high school which I thoroughly enjoyed.. at Fair Janet placed ten entries in our recent Box Elder County fair in Tremonton and came away with eight e blue ribbons and two second-placred Won e first-plac- ribbons plus a cash award. She entered red beets, sweet chuck, bread and butter pickles, canned pears, deer meat and asparagus. She has a drawer overflowing with ribbons she has won in previous years for her outstanding cooking. "I love baking she went on. I make several batches of cookies at one time and have them in my freezer. I also freeze casseroles. They are so con- and candy. The guest list included Tracy Johnson, Shawna Jeppson, Michele and Lori Porter, Tereasa Morgan, Robyn Anderson, Charlotte Lawson, Tina Notes, Treasa Talbot, Cheryl Alex and David, Susan and Warren Wade. Mrs. Boyd Newman is home after spending 10 days in Hawaii. She flew there to be with her sister who just had her third child. She did some sightseeing but mostly just took care of the family. Place in refrigerator until set. 2 Topping Add together Vi c. pineapple juice, 2 T. flour, Vi c. sugar, 1 egg, 2 T. butter. Mix ingredients in saucepan and bring to boil, stirring constantly. Let cool. Add 1 c. whipped cream. Pour over jello and sprinkle with grated Cheddar cheese. Return to refrigerator until set firmly. Meat Loaf lbs, hamburger, 1 can vegetable soup, 1 beaten egg, Vi c. bread crumbs, 1 chopped onion, 1 T. Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tsp. prepared mustard, 1 tsp. salt, Vi tsp. pepper. Shape into loaf. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. 2 Sauce catsup, 1 Vi tsp. chopped onion, Melt 1 T. butter with 1 T. flour. Mix ingredients together. Corinne. are Mrs. Gladys Visit Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Lon Wheeler are home again after a months visit with their daughter Mrs. Dorinne Sabock and her three daughters of Falls Church, Va. While they were there they toured interesting sites in the area. Among the highlights of the trip was a visit to the Pentagon where their granddaughter Shauna is employed. They were surprised to find that there is a huge shopping plaza in it. They also saw the site of the new LDS temple which is under construction there. A visit to the unique Thieves Market was most interesting. Mrs. Wheeler reports they even found some articles in the antique shop they could use and made a few purchases. Mrs. Wheeler was also interested in the visit she made to the dress shop in Washington DC where her daughter is manager. During their stay Wheeler observed his 70th birthday and they celebrated with a birthday for family and a few close friends. The party was complete with the traditional cake and trimmings. 5 is now a Tupperware manager after serving as a dealer in this area for seven years. She has 22 dealers working for her at the present time. She is a natural at having parties. She loves associating with people and is always anxious to please each of her customers. Their lovely home is filled with gifts she has won at Tupperware sales and drawings. She is also adept in making beautiful floral arrangements. Her home is 9 passing along the good news about their first grandchild, a boy. He was born on Oct. 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Anderson of Corinne.
