Show I 6 Brigham City, Utah October 25, 1973 Thursday, BOX ELDER JOURNAL, A Dewyville man has a $2,000 claim to Brigham City "to compensate : son-in-la- help defray incurred medical expenses as the result of his handling by city police. The claim was submitted on behalf of Edward A. Nielsen who allegedly received "unnecessary and wrong treatment after a traffic accident on Brigham Citys Main street Sept. 14, 1973. A letter to the city council ; stated that Nielsen, after being involved in the two-ca- r mishap, was taken to the police station and the invetigating officer took away his heart pills. At the time he "was not able to talk but was still able to understand and evidently had no trouble manipulating quite normally, the letter stated. and Logan. "Both of Mr. Neilsen's doctors .... diagnosed his condition as a cerebral hemorrhage or stroke, the letter continued. In addition to the monetary claim, the letter concluded that "the Brigham City Police force should be reprimanded for this incident. "It is our belief that it is law that an officer as public servant should be trained to recognize and protect a person when he needs medical attention as well as when he is breaking a traffic or other laws of our country. It was signed by Nielsen and members of his family. The matter was referred to the city attorney.
