Show t. t Ski areas areas' awards given Christine Marsh Sports Editor EditorS NOW Country Magazine has chosen two S SNOW of Utah's Ski Resorts for their National S Ski Area Design Awards These awards acknowledge acknowledge acknowledge ledge the accomplishments of resort planners who have been successful in maintaining the pristine beauty of the environment and meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing the needs of its visitors Solitude Ski Area received the award for trail and slope layout and Deer Valley Resort was recognized for its overall resort design The awards were presented at the United Ski Industry of Americas annual banquet Both of the Utah Resorts will be featured in the June July issue of Snow Country Magazine During the summer of 1989 Solitude underwent underwent underwent un un- un- un derwent major renovation of its slopes Judges for the trail tail and slope design awards were impressed with the use of the natural slope and the consistency of the slope grade I within the levels of abilities One judge said Solitude is commended for having the courage to undo its mountain and redesign as asit asit asit it did Salt Lake and Utah will be proud of what Solitude accomplished Criteria for overall resort design award received by Deer Valley include the sensitivity of the area to the environment functional use of natural settings and the relationship of buildings and functions to traffic patterns and service A busy summer is ahead for Deer Valley The construction of a new restaurant and the addition of four new lifts will further improve this growing resort area It lilt is gratifying to know our achievements have been recognized recognized recognized but more importantly this award will wiIl inspire us in all further Deer Valley plans said Bob ONeall director of sales and marketing marketing market market- ing at Deer Valley 1 |
