Show Salina Youth to Sing In U. A. C. Opera "Carmen" In the presentation of George Bizet's grand opera, "Qarmen", March 7 and 8 by the music department depart-ment of the Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural college Jerold Shepherd of Salina, sophomore student in the school of education, will sing the baritone role of Morales, captain of the aragoofis, according to Professor Profes-sor Walter Welti, director. Mr. Shepherd, who is majoiing in music at the state institution, sang in the chorus of the 1937 varsity operatic selection, Verdi's "Aida." He also played a role in the 1937 varsity drama, Maxwell Anderson's "Both Your Houses." A member of the college concert band for two years, he is now president of that organization. He is also a member of the Beno chapter of the Intercollegiate Inter-collegiate Knights, national collegiate colleg-iate service organization, on the campus. Graduating from Salina high school in 1936, Mr. Shepherd delivered deliv-ered the valedictory address for his class. The same year he was president presi-dent of the high school student body. In the presentation of "The Count and the Coed," opera selection selec-tion of 'that school, Mr. Shepherd sang the baritone role of the count. |
