Ray Nielsen became the first personal contributor to the proposed Sanpete County Crisis Hot Line last week. The Crisis Hot Line is being organized to offer assistance for individuals who are having problems, according to Kay Jensen Public Health Nurse. A committee including about 20 high school students and other community volunteers has been formed to the crisis hot line and some of those volunteers are forming a governing board to direct the program. But the program is still in the organizational stages because of lack of funding and volunteer help. We need your help in making this service possible in Sanpete County, Mrs. Jensen said. Since there are few funds available this program must be run by volunteers. People that feel they can help in any way 1 should contact Mr. Jensen at 835-817- or 462-244- Mrs. Jensen explained the Crisis Line will not be designed to solve problems but rather to help callers find solutions to their problems through personal and community resources. The purpose of the group is to act as a listening, referral service and general information Jayne Wolfe to aid WA counseling center for people of any age, sex, or race who have problems of almost any nature, including personal crisis, suicide, rape, abuse, emergency needs or by just providing someone who cares and is MT. One of the crucial problems targeted by the Hot Line is suicide, a tragic and unnecessary waste, she said. Before a reader can finish this article, someone in the United States will try to kill himself, Mrs. Jensen said. About 80 American will actually have taken their own lives by this time tomorrow. About eight to 10 times that many will attempt suicide. Many of those who attempt unsuccessfully will try again, a number of them with lethal success. In recent weeks Sanpete families have been saddened by the deaths of two young men who took their own lives. Mrs. Jensen said many people in Sanpete County are desperately struggling with the choice of life or death and added that the recent suicides possibly could have been averted had the Crisis Hot Line been available to them. The next Hot Line meeting will be held Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. in the North Sanpete High School. SPRING CIT- Y- SFC Craig M. When told he would not have support for a marching program Orwin began successfully marching his students in front of the school building and on the football field. One evening he reluctantly stopped a drill-dow- n exercise after lack of sunlight and the evening chill made further work impossible even though his band students eagerly lined up for another exercise. Orwin plans to have his marching band ready to perform during halftime at the Homecoming game Friday night. As Orwin is trying to increase the size of his band he is also keenlv aware of the necessity of improving quality. To add balance to existing instruments he would like to obtain two tubas, some oboes, a bassoon and about three French horns. Owin, himself, plays French horn and was a member of the Snow College brass quintet as well as a soloist there. He is also desperate for an accompanist to assist him during his two chorus classes each morning. And he would like to have uniforms for his band members. He wants 100 uniforms because he feels that is the band size he will eventually have. Those uniforms will cost between $150 and $300 a piece and he is willing to help raise half the cost from band members and the communities if the school district can fund the balance. The uniforms are important because Orwin plans to take his band to marching competition as well as participate in all local parades. And he would like to take that uniformed band on one major trip every other summer. Later he would like to start some ensemble groups, but not until the symphonic band is built up, he said. Next year he hopes to have an audition-onlband and chorus with about 65 band members and 50 INCLUDES 10 4X4's WE CUSTOM ORDER FROM NEW 1986s ON DOWN COMPARE OUR PRICES BEFORE BUYING!! cir- George Bernard Shaw what happens when the snow comes.
