When a New York anti-slavery society session was broken up by a mob. many of its speakers were roughly handled. Perceiving Per-ceiving that many of the women were afraid. Mrs. Mott said to her escort, "Won't thee look after some of the others?" "But who will take care of you?" he asked. "This man," laying her hand on the arm of one of the roughest of the mob.
