Show t • N E W S - Covering what matters most Spanish Fork WEDNESDAY, MAY 7, 2008 • B7 SF Gymnast competes in Cali Josie Osborn* SFHS Ashley Snyder, senior at Spanish Fork High School, recently competed in a state gymnastics competition. She took part and competed in the events of vault, beam, floor, and bars. Ashley placed first in every event and second on the bars. She placed first all around. Her level nine team also placed first in their events at the state competition. Because Ashley Snyder Ashley did so well, she qualified for the Regional Competition which took now. "I really enjoy just place in Long Beach, California where she also how well I get to know did very well in all of her people, especially, my other events. Ashley is a part of the •teammates. Blood Drive SFHS students donate to hospitals Josie Osborn SFHS Spanish Fork High School held a blood drive on April 30. In this blood drive, students and teachers made an effort to give their blood to local hospitals. Mountain Star Blood Services conducted the blood drive. It turned out to be a great success. There were many participants willing to donate their time and blood to a great cause including Jess Christofferson, senior, who said, "I wanted to give blood because it helps other people and I really don't need all of mine." Kat Stoulsenberger, senior, also donated her blood and she added," It's fun and deeply important to give blood to the hospital so that when patients need the blood that they don't have, they will have somewhere to get it. So that's why I give blood." "Yeah, I like it." said Bryan Snell, senior, "I want to be able to help other people who need it more than I do." Josie Osborn, junior, added that, i ' m excited because by participating in something so simple, I can help someone else who needs what I already have a lot of. It's my first time giving blood and it makes me happy to know that 1 can do something nice for someone else." Brandon Jacquez, student at Spanish Fork High School, recently won the State Science Fair which took place at Brigham Young University. He and his science project first won the Nebo District Science Fair Competition after which they continued on to take first place at the Utah State Science Fair. Because . Brandon did so well, he will take his project and continue on to the International Science Fair in Georgia. His project was conducted on the efficiency in hydrogen production. This is a more efficient way of getting hydrogen out of water for everyday usage. Brandon, along with his friends. Josh Heets and Spencer Cook, discovered a way to run electricity Brandon Jacquez through water in order to split the hydrogen from the oxygen. This process is called electrolysis. "I was excited to win. It was really cool to see my project go so far. We're hoping to get our idea patented. Then maybe our idea will go on to help in the future," said Brandon. Nebo Credit Union visit FINANCIALLY FIT FOR THE FUTURE: Ed Hewitt from Nebo Credit Union came to visit Mrs. Shultz's twelfth grade English class at Spanish Fork High School on Wednesday, April 30 to talk to the students about financial decisions that they will need to be able to make in the near future. Mr. Hewitt gave the high school students advice on many different topics of finance such as credit cards, loans, buying cars, buying houses, renting, attaining credit and how to accomplish their financial goals. Kyle Bradford, senior, said that, "Mr. Hewitt really taught me how credit works. I didn't understand it before at all and I didn't know how much-that it means to my future. I liked learning about it and I feel more informed after he came to my class and taught us." Courtesy photo |
