Show OLD DEll PIONEER PASSES AWAY Richard Bentley of St George Breathes His Last in That City Richard Bentley one of the oldest liv living living ing pioneers in Utah died at his home in St George yesterdaY morning Mr Bent Bentley Icy ley was born In England in and was nearly 86 years of age He has been a sufferer from asthma for years This and his extreme age caused his death Mr Bentley reached in 1813 11 corn com comIng Ing from England as 18 a convert to the Mormon faith Later he moved to Coun Council cli cil Bluffs Is Ia He crossed the plains to Utah in the earlY SOS and located at N Nephi phi He was one of the party which settled the Carson territory This was wasat wasat at that time a portion of Utah but is now embraced In Nevada A son was born in that territory and was named Frank One of the towns settled in Nevada was called Franktown in honor of Mr Bentleys son When the missionaries were called back to lJ Salt Lake Mr Bentley returned and se secured secured cured a position in the church historians office In 1800 he filled a mission in Eng England England land Upon his return he moved to St StGeorge StGeorge George where he opened a general store He was for many years the only mer merchant m chant in that city In he retired from active business Mr Bentley was prominent prominent nent in circles in St George He served several terms as mayor and filled other offices His wife survives him also six children f forty grandchildren and four fourteen fourteen teen His three sorts are William Oscar and Frank R il who live Uve in St George and Jo Joeph eph C of New Mexico e ico His daughters are Mrs E B G Woolley of Salt Lake Mrs E D Woolley of Kanab and Mrs Nelson Terry of Enterprise Mrs E G Woolley left for st George upon receiving the news of her fathers serious illness but buthe he di died d before she reached his bedside No funeral arrangements have been made |
