Show Christian Families Still Abound The other day we read an ar-ticle'in' ar-ticle'in' which a learned speaker, appalled by the "moral deterioration deteriora-tion of modern civilization," declared de-clared that "the Christian home must be restored." We sometimes wonder where the -.so-called moral leaders of society get the' idea that the "Christian home" has been .destroyed. .des-troyed. It is amazing how men and women, in a position of moral mor-al and "intellectual leadership jump to the conclusion that modern mod-ern civilization is morally bankrupt bank-rupt and that people, by and large, are riding herd on the way to perdition. We can understand how a perspiring per-spiring table -' thumping orator or-ator can denounce everything and everybody to those who listen lis-ten to his tirades so he can get them to believe, at first, that he represents moral leadership of a high order and speaks with the . authority of the Almighty. We cannot conceive how intelligent, thinking human beings can swallow swal-low the guff and gaff which often of-ten comes from the lips of those who claim to give them intel-t intel-t lectualand religious leadership. There is no proof whatever that modern civilization has decayed de-cayed beyond the civilizations of earlier days. There are many indications, on the contrary, that men and women, on the average, have reached a stale of morality, intelligence and well-being not heretofore equalled in the history his-tory of the world. The Christian home, so loudly lauded, does not exist except through the presence of individuals individ-uals inspired by Christian ideals. Even if one discounts the professional profes-sional and hypocritical Christians that undoubtedly exist, there is little evidence that the number of sincere and devout Christians has diminished in recent generations. genera-tions. One of the favorite dissertations, disserta-tions, when leaders get on the subject of the home, is the assertion asser-tion that the advent of the wife as a worker and home-maker is, in itself, the cause of the theoretical theoret-ical deterioration of American home life. In the years past, it was the task of the wife to be an economic econom-ic asset to the family of which she became a part. With the passing pass-ing of pioneer days and the somewhat some-what rugged existence of that period, the modern wife, if she wants to contribute to the uplift of her children, is very often compelled to face the economic facts of life and secure employment. employ-ment. I. We have observed the results of family life in Duchesne county. coun-ty. We cannot say that the wife who accepts employment to augment aug-ment the family income and to make, possible greater advantages advan-tages for her children is guilty of home or family neglect. Nor can we truthfully assert that all the families of so-called intellectual intellec-tual and spiritual leaders, which we have observed in our years, have given conclusive evidence of what the emotionally-minded choose to denominate the "Christian "Chris-tian home." |
