Show A RARE CAPTURE! Two Lawyers Hunt Stolen Treasure and Find It ! Arrctril nml uowlu ClKtt.dy In tills til,-. Probably the richest capture yet made in connection with the late robberies rob-beries on the C. P. K. R., was effected this week. A few days ago Mr. Tra-cey, Tra-cey, of Wells, Fargo & Co's office in this city, received information that a Couple of men. lawyers, acting for Dan Taylor the last arrested robber, had quietly left Elko for Ogden at night on a freight train; and the supposition was that Taylor had told them where his share of the plunder was "cached." and that they were anxious to secure their fees in advance for conducting the defense. On Wednesday morning morn-ing last, two men answering to the description, quietly left this city by stage westward at 7 o'clock, and at 11 o'clock Mr. Adam Paul, who had assisted as-sisted in the robbers' pursuit and capture, cap-ture, also left on horseback, taking the same direction. He overtook them at ilast Canon next morning at daylight, and watched them hiring a buggy, they having left the stage. The pursuit now became interesting. They went on, unconscious of danger afar them; he followed and kept up tho pursuit for about thirty miles, until 10 o'clock that night Satisfied that they had got the plunder, or a part of it, he closed on them, and quietly informed them they were his piisoneis. They were somewhat nonplussed non-plussed at the arrest, and inquired if he was an agent of Wells, Fargo's or a detective, when he informed them he had authority from Wells, Fargo i Co. to make them prisoners. He took them back to the place where the plunder had been hidden, and there found $300 in coin which they had fa'ped to get, although they had got $12,000 in greenbacks and forty-ounces forty-ounces in gold dust. It was a clear case, so they owned up, that they had been employed by Taylor to defend him, and of course they were after their fees. These "limbs of the law," who are named Rand and Bonnilield, arc now in custody in this city, having been brought in with their "find" by Mr. Paul, and placed in the hands of the city officers. Too much credit cannot be given to Mr. Traeey, the city officers, Mr. Paul, and Messrs. Kimball, Knowlton, Judd and Booth, ibr the successive and successful suc-cessful captures made of those engaged in the C. P. robberies. Energy, keenness keen-ness of scent, cool courage and a determination de-termination to secure the parties have been manifested all through, Their successes will be a caution to such fellows in future to keep clear of Utah. |
