The senate will discuss the incident and report in its next meeting. The senate has recalled and amended the BSU bill on Moe's recommendation. The Black Student Union will still receive $1,100, but there will be a stipulation that $200 will be specifically for the running of the club, $500 for Black Awareness Week, and $400 for a speaker. I discussion of a questionable transfer of funds took priority in ASSUSC Senate and Executive Council meetings last week. Questions arose concerning $1,114 of senate money which was used for travel expenses for ASSUSC President Monica Moe and executive council members. Moe explained to both the executive council and senate her position on the money from the senate fund which was used for executive council travel. "Every year, senate has set aside $1,000 for USA council. This year that money didn't get transferred. asked the controllers what to do and they said we could just transfer it, so we did. We didn't do anything we thought was wrong," Moe said. Moe explained the misunderstanding was due mainly to lack of communication. "I go to the have to take his word for it. There's controller, no way any mishandling of funds can occur, it takes at least three signatures for everything. don't think it needs to be justified, think it justifies itself," she said. Charles Smith, senator for business, technology and communication, explained the senate's views. "It says in the (ASSUSC) Constitution only senate can appropiiate funds and the senate did not appropriate those funds." Moe said, "This was set up last spring. Moe said, "I don't think senate should be responsible for the whole Black Awareness Week, and think three days is long enough. The reason they received so much money last year was because they already had Alex Haley signed. They don't have anyone yet this year."
