"We don't want anyone going hungry. If a student is going hungry then they aren't healthy and their studies will suffer," said Vorwaller. There are some students on campus that get in a pinch and the need for a food bank project was brought to Vorwaller's attention by R. Scott Phillips, publicity director for the Utah Shakespearean Festival. The food bank is partially being stocked through the help of Albertson's, a corporate sponsor. Albertson's will continue to donate food throughout the rest of the school year, said Vorwaller. SUSC students will also play a part in maintaining the food bank. According to Vorwaller, a new policy was passed that makes it mandatory to give a discount to students who donate a can of food at the door of all SUSC dances. "We have a lot of food right now so we would like to give it away," said Vorwaller. "There are not too many strings attached to get the food." If students are in need of help from the food bank, they should consult a faculty or staff member so that the service is not abused. It is hard for people to come out and ask for help, said Vorwaller; therefore, all information is kept confidential. Food can be delivered to a needy student without that student knowing he or she was referred. Circle K, an international service cljb, has expressed its willingness to help in the delivery of the food, said Vorwaller. The food bank is available to all students, students, including the families of even if they get really tight at the end of the month and only need it for a week or so, said Vorwaller. "If students are in a severe need for funds, we can also help find avenues for more financial aid. "We have found positive results and have helped a lot of people out. FHopefully people will feel good about it (the food bank) and we will get enough support so that the following administrations will continue it," Vorwaller said.
