Show PELICANS IN KANSAS Largo Flock of the Ungainly Birds Hover Over a Town for Hours Plttsburg The other day a largo flock of pelicans flew over the town of Hepler One of the birds was shot and it fell Into tho large railroad pond After It bad been shot tho flock hovered over the pond for three or four hours circling higher and higher till they were out of gunshot reach It was after night before the flock abandoned the wouiklcd bird and continued con-tinued their jeunij J northward The bird that was hot was not killed but was disabled In ono of Its wings It was a fine larj bird standing about four feet high and measuring eight I feet from tip U tip of Its wings It was as vthite as snow with the exception that It has one 6V two black feathers In the tip of tho wings Its beak Is about one foot In length with a pouch underneath large enough to hold about one gallon of water Tho flock had probably been disturbed and driven out of their course to the northern lakes |
