Show TilE BU1UHA3I YOUNG MONUMENT In the Mormon conference on Tuesday tbo matter of the erection of tho statue and monument of BIIIOIIAM YOUNG and tho I pioneers after the model designed by Mr S DALLIX was laid before the congregation and contributions to the fund were solicited solic-ited The project is one whIch interests the people of Utah as a community and it is to be hoped that the contributions will 1 be confined to no class or sect There was a time when BIUGIUM Youxa was regarded re-garded by those not of his faith as only the head of the Mormon church and those who did not like the Mormon religion looked upon BKIOUAM Youxo as the person upon whom to concentrate their hatred Happily that day of narrow prejudice has post and toriay the overwhelming majority ma-jority of the nonMormon citizens of Utah take a broader and better view of the man who led his little Hock to this valley and here began the building of the mighty commonwealth com-monwealth which now exists We know that many of the foremost Gentiles today regard BUIOHAM YOUNG ns a great man We know they concede him credit and praise for what ho did not perhaps as a churchman and religious teacher but as a pioneer as a leader of men as a builder of commonwealths as a mighty force among his fellows and not a few of these broadminded citizens citi-zens aro rather proud of the fact that the I founder of this splendid community the strongest and altogether best in the great I interior west WAS this same BIUGIIAM YOUNG As the years go this worthy sentiment I sen-timent will increase and for all time the name of the leader who gave so much to I the community and who buildod it may bo better than he knew will be reverenced by the citizens of Utah without regard to creed Tnt HniiALD believes the Gentiles as well as the Mormons would like to see the monument one worthy of the territory and we also believe a good many nonMormons would like to assist in building it thus making the structure a community affair i In which all classes will have an interest |
