Ill liBAKIl To AN the Teachers and Trustees of Box Elder County Honor the Great Discoverer. To the Teachers and School Oflieers in Box Elder County: The 21st of October next is the 400th Anniversary of the Discovery of America by Columbus. This day has been set apart as a general holiday for the people of the United States, and they are advised upon that day "To cease from toil and devote themselves to such exercises as may best express honor to the discoverer and their appreciation I of the great achievements of the four completed centuries of American life." It is to be hoped that every school will be provided with a flag and that upon this memorable occasion its "starry folds" shall lloat over every school house in Box Elder County. Tot the exercises be of such a nature that within the youth shall be instilled a deeper and more patriotic love of country and a greater reverence for its gifted and inspired discoverer. It is recommended that the morning exercises, which should be ivminly rendered by the children, be conducted in the school houses, and those of the afternoon-or evening, even-ing, in the most commodious building in the district, w here the best available talent should lie em ployed. A committee of teachers and trustees, together with some of the other leading citizens, should take this matter in band immediately. I herewith enclose an outline of the "Oflicial Program" for the morning exercises, to which additional addi-tional songs, speeches, etc.. may be added.
