estimable woman waman which occurred burred at their family residence this morning at sister has aas for a number nin niber of years been with the relief society end and has always been highly esteemed by all who knew her she afie Ss Is the daughter of the late A B tanner was born bora at beaver city utah dec IM 1861 was married to robert july fl 4 ism 1888 she leaves a husband wad and six children and many friends to mourn her ber low 1001 she died in full faith of a glorious glorio ius res urresti on M X D Y MARTIN LENZI elder martin lenzil who died on the of october Oo tober 1888 1898 at 20 p m was waa born october 1815 in the town of 0 walbach district of can toa to Aar switzerland he was baptized and became a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints september 8 1840 in philadelphia under the administration of elder alder lorenzo D barnes barnee 1 from the time of brother lenais baptism into the church unto the time he took t to his bed of sickness that resulted in his death he was a faithful Indu sixie patient loving and true disciple of jesus he was untiring in his labors as the many sick and afflicted people of this state have testified having been raised up by the power of god under his ministrations while living in philadelphia his bouse was always open to the elders who partook k of his bounty and were never turned burned away lie he gathered to this city in 1857 1957 and settled in the ward in 1858 he moved to Sten pete with the saints in the general move and located in the town of ephraim where he continued to reside cor aw three years con ducting a mercantile business jn in the interests of the people he was a tobacconist bac conist by trade but preferred doing anything ot of goods then than to follow a business that would corrupt the people it is a fact worthy of note that he even discontinued the use of tobacco in every form so arix anxious ious was he to give me his influence in support of the word of wisdom while re residing alding there he was ordained a high priest under the hands of father james allred alired december 9 1859 on returning to this city he settled in the fourteenth ward and was set apart as counselor to bishop AI abraham hoagland in 1861 and continued in said office during brother Hoa glands life it had been predicted by the tete late president george A smith who blessed brother lenzi in the year 1840 that he should go on a biasion mia sion to his native country and although elder lenzi was only 5 years old when he left that lend and had forgotten much of his mother oither ro tongue he was called and started upon a mission oct 21 1875 at the advanced age of 60 years he was very successful in his labors as a missionary in his native land and presided over the zurich conference he was absent until the fall of 1877 during ills his absence his wite wife mary ann lutz died leaving three sons and two daughters after his return he married the widow of charles lutz and purchased property and nd r removed moved to twelfth ward of this city where he died on april 3 1880 he was set apart as counsellor to the laite bishop alexander C of twelfth ward and afterwards became counis counselor elor to bishop H B clawson of the saime ward in which office he continued to act until chosen to bea be a he was ordained under hands of president george Q cannon bannon sept 1897 while conducting his bis business as a tobacconist in philadelphia phil he demonstrated a greatt great taste for fior painting and in ills practice derived as much profit from the sale of his works ot of art as he did from the sale of his goods as a tobacconist A colnel coincident dent is worth mentioning as recorded by his own hand before his bis death it is as follows 1 I carried on the luain bunea ess dor three jews in my early life as B t tobacconist bac conist and in 1856 1 I dreamed that I 1 was sent country and these thes ethree three men who am embraced braced and idesa kissed me e affectionately and abid wept the part of it is s that when I 1 arrived to in delphna delp bla hla aft 19 years afterwards as I 1 i passed through upon my rp mission ladon these men did as I 1 had been shown they would du the went talent brother danzl exhibited in painting rg was 0 of great good to hiim hdm in that it enabled him tu exercise his taste in painting in the different temples and to furnish specimens of art very highly prized by his friends and for which he was awarded diplomas and gold and silver medals among other things he produced a splendid asplend ld likeness of himself brother Lenzi during his life married five wives the last of whom survives him they hive have borne him fifteen children four sons and three daughters are now living had brother braher lenzi lived one day d y longer he would have ben e en ea ow oll his funeral was waa conducted from the twelfth ward waird chapel at 2 p m I 1 dinst 5 st under direction of bishop H B clowson 1 to bless mankind beautiful selections were effectively rendered by the choir and a special quartet elder H P richards a high councilor opened the services by prayer and bishop george romney y of the twentieth ward pro iM Minced the benediction the grave was dedicated by president angus M cannon which closed the ceremonies that were attended throughout by a most heavenly influence oom |
